Project Overview
Design Challenge
How might we engage young people
in political knowledge?
Mission
Build a more tolerant and empathetic society by providing an unbiased platform for youth to learn and discuss about politics.
Vision
We aim to be the first platform for youth to learn and improve their political knowledge. Empower youth to have an active voice in their community and be able to discuss politics with confidence.

Audience
We are focusing on young people, which are interested in politics or just want to talk about what is happening around them.
"Everybody is a political person,
whenever you say something or you are silent.
A political attitude is not whenever you go to parliament; it's how you deal with your life,
with your surroundings."
- Paulo Coelho
Brand Identity
Brand Personality

Logo
The logo is designed to be self-explanatory.
We decided to go for a wordmark with a clear message of our purpose and audience.
Number 4 stands for a carefree and easy-going personality. In this digital age, youth use shortcuts while communicating, so we want them to feel that P4Y (Politics 4 Youth) is their place.

Colours
We decided to go for a bright green and bold purple to stand out from standards patterns.

Design Process
Benchmarking
To get a bigger picture of the whole market, we analyzed the current structure and content from competitors through benchmarking to identify the pain points of those contents and interfaces.

We compared and analyzed different areas such as apps, podcasts, youtube channels, and e-books.
Key insights
-
Poor interfaces
-
Language restrictions
-
Monotonous tone of voice
-
Biased content

Survey
To gather quick feedback from the users about their understanding of what's going on politically around the world.
28 participants
-
The majority of the users have difficulty sometimes or do not understand the context of the political news.

-
75% of the users are interested in politics and feel responsible for or being up-to-date on their country's political issues.
Do you find it difficult to understand the context of the political news?

Value proposition
We recognized that users' needs and wants are to obtain clear and concise information about concepts of politics, in order to understand and be comfortable talking about the daily basic politics.

Our objective for this platform is to give easy access to exclusive content, which is engaging and easy to understand.
Design Sprint
We used Jakes Knapp Sprint's book to guide us to our last process of the project.

Our ideal proposal was still to offer a platform to promote political awareness and engagement for youth. And our main purpose was to better understand what the youth are looking for when it comes to learning about politics and align their needs to our business goals.

We decided during design sprints to approach this audience through gamification and music by creating a prototype with features they could feel related to and connected with their daily lives.

Usability testing
4 participants, moderated remotely
Our findings were that testers were into the music feature and they are willing to share it with their friends.
On the other hand, the gamification was not successful and not interesting enough for the tester. They were more focused on more informational content.
With that in mind, our next step was to take off the gamification, improve the content, and recreate the design interface, in order to be user-friendlier and engaging.
Users needs
-
Clear and concise message about our purpose
-
More educational content
-
Reliable and coherent information
-
Don’t want to waste much of their time
-
Easily interacting with the content throughout the busy daily-life
Final Prototype
Learnings and Takeaways
The challenge in this project was to create an engaging platform for a difficult topic such as politics.
Furthermore, we have experienced and learned to use the technique of the Design Sprint that guided us through the design of P4Y in a very short amount of time, so we had to learn how to collaborate in a more effective way.
